by Ann Tatlock
Read the Back:
A MOTHER fleeing unspeakable danger to keep her children safe…
TWO YOUNG GIRLS guarding secrets in a “cross my heart and hope to die” pledge…
A FATHER desperate to be reunited with his family…
Award-winning author ANN TATLOCK skillfully blends her well-drawn characters into an inspiring tale of unimaginable courage and selfless love.
My Thoughts:
An edge of your seat kind of book from the very first page! This book really delves into the life of 10 yr. old Roz and the entire story is narrated from her point of view. This gives realism to the characters and the events that unfold. It reminds the reader of the innocence and pure love of a child. This story also touches on the civil rights and war issues that were present during the 60’s & 70’s. I absolutely love the characters in this story. I love that the author gives each of them strength and wisdom beyond their years while still reminding us through naivety that some of them are just kids.
This book was a tear-jerker in parts and had you guessing until the very end what would happen next. I love the ending of this book and I hope that you’ll pick up a copy too so that you can find out what happens to Roz.
